The underpass is meant to smooth traffic at the capital’s busiest exit to northern country, by extending the number of lanes. ‘We promised and it’s done. This is the most important message we send the Bucharest residents today, namely that what the government I represent promised with respect to Baneasa underpass has been achieved. Not only did we promise to open it on December 1, but, as you see, we have opened it a few days earlier, out of respect for the Bucharest residents who are going to travel at the weekend’, Boc said.
He pointed out that over two years – 2007 and 2008 respectively – the old government achieved just 20 percent of the works, while the current executive completed the remainder 80 percent.
‘Infrastructure works can be done in Romania if there is the political will’, the prime minister said, promising that other targets will also be completed on schedule.
The outgoing premier said the government this year spent six billion euros for investments accounting for some 75-7 6 percent of the money assigned the investments in the full year.
‘I thank Minister Berceanu, since he was the one who proposed this project in 2007. If we had been in government, Baneasa underpass would have been ready on December 1, 2007. It took the 2008 general elections for us to get to rule again and then to complete it in less than a year’, Boc underscored. “I am glad that a road is finally completed and that traffic starts as a result of infrastructure projects”, Transport Minister Berceanu said at the opening of the underpass.
