Before the meeting Mircea Geoana made it clear that the main aim of the meting consisted in establishing a few principles of the good government in the case of a Cabinet he will create by Christmas if he became President.
Mayor of Sibiu Klaus Johannis said on Monday, before the meeting with Crin Antonescu and Mircea Geoana, that the talks with the two politicians would refer to “fundamental questions” but ministers would not be talked about. “Today is the first occasion for us to talk directly, not on the phone.
We shall discuss a few fundamental questions and, if need be, we shall establish other meetings,” said Johannis, who made it clear that he had been consulted by the representatives of PSD and PNL about the priorities of a possible Government he was said to head. When asked if he requested guarantees for his mandates, Klaus Johannis said he would not do it.
“I am not going to ask for guarantees, the mandate will last as long as it will, we shall see … We are not going to talk about ministers now,” said Johannis. When asked what guarantees he has of the fact that a government headed by him will not include undesirable ministers from his point of view, Klaus Johannis said that the talks on the portfolio holders would be very serious.
“What we still have to do is to negotiate, but obviously if I am assigned the task of creating a government, the questions will be discussed very seriously for every portfolio … If I am to create a government, I am going to nominate persons with whom I shall be able to work,” said Klaus Johannis.
