President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Mircea Geoana, candidate of PSD+PC political Alliance, President of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Crin Antonescu and Mayor of Sibiu municipality (center) Klaus Johannis held on Monday afternoon, at Parliament Palace, a first meeting after the signing of the partnership protocol between the social democrats and the liberals.

Klaus Johannis, who returned from abroad, took part in the first round of talks on the designation of a future Cabinet, with his candidacy for the Prime Minister office, backed by PSD+PC and PNL. In spite of not discussing about portfolios for the time being, Johannis admitted that the current situation is a first, when an independent Executive head is to lead a “fully political” government.

PSD and PNL leaders said he will have the “last word” as for the designation of the future ministers, they being named by both parties, in case Mircea Geoana wins the presidential elections runoff on Sunday.
On the occasion of the Monday meeting the three political leaders outlined the “principles for a good governance” – to serve as the basis of the future governing programme, according to PSD President Mircea Geoana.

“I reconfirm the principles agreed in the political accord between PSD+PC Alliance and PNL on another policy type and the need of energetic moves to leave the crisis behind. I remark that we represent a generation of political leaders wishing to prove that another type of policy can be implemented in Romania. Our goal and my goal as Romania’s President is to have a Klaus Johannis Government installed till Christmas, based on some healthy governing principles, focused on the economic recovery, maintenance of jobs and serious and durable investments”, argued the PSD leader.

Another topic of discussion referred to the fact that, as a first, the future government “will have the opportunity” to work with a multi-annual three-year budget and, according to Mircea Geoana, this will secure a higher predictability and efficiency in the spending of public money.
“The first law Johannis Government must approve will be the Law on fiscal responsibility, set to bring as a first in Romania the principles of good governance, to eliminate the possibility of often and abusive state budget rectifications and to ensure a correct and transparent allocation of resources derived from taxes and customs”, said Geoana.

The three political leaders also discussed about difficulties with which the private sector is confronted in Romania. “Here we refer to the elimination of the lump tax, keeping on the flat tax and finding resources for eventual taxation cuts – when it will be proved we have enough resources”, pointed out PSD President.
