The alliance represented by Mircea Geoana proved in Parliament that it did not understand the Romanians’ priorities and especially that it was not willing to serve the Romanians in their interests and wishes, President Traian Basescu, the candidate supported by the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L), told the electoral debate at the Parliament Palace on Thursday.

He also said that, on December 6, Romania would have two options, “a powerful one, for a modern society” or “the option of going back in time by the return to the Cotroceni Palace of the Social Democratic Party, of Ion Iliescu and Mircea Geoana.”

“Between the present moment and December 6 the Romanians must decide if they want a Romania undergoing a speedy reform process, their voice is heard, in which the result of the referendum should become a reality and in which politicians should be responsible for the citizen’s priorities or one in which politicians should rule for themselves and for their vested interests,” said Basescu.

He added that “what they suggest to the Romanians is a government of politicians for politicians” and that, at present, most politicians were no longer the Romanians’ interest. “I should give as an example the fact that this majority Mircea Geoana is preparing for government voted against the referendum being organized.

This alliance Mircea Geoana represents proved in Parliament that it did not understand the Romanians’ priorities and especially that it was not willing to serve the Romanians in their interests and wishes. Its aim may be the preservation of privileges,” said Traian Basescu. He emphasized the fact that he would immediately start “putting into practice the decision of the sovereign people as regards the reformation of the political class and of Parliament.”

“I am suggesting to the Romanians a Romania in which, starting with the President, the ministers and the high officials, nobody should benefit by immunity, in which politicians should diminish their discretionary power in using the public money,” also said the candidate supported by PD-L in his opening speech.
