About 108,000 Romanians turned up to vote abroad by 7:00 p.m.

Approximately 108,000 Romanians cast ballots abroad by 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, in the runoff of the presidential elections, in what is the highest turnout of diaspora voters after 1990, informed the chairs of the polling stations organized abroad.

The countries where the voting process has wrapped up include Australia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, India, the People’s Republic of China, Afghanistan (in the polling stations organized in the theater of operations), Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates and Georgia.

More than 94,000 Romanian citizens turned up to vote abroad in the first round of the presidential elections and in the referendum organized on Nov. 22. The turnout of diaspora voters in the 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections was of 40,000 plus.
