BEC partial results: Basescu – 50.37 percent, Geoana – 49.62 percent

Traian Basescu, the candidate who is backed by the Democratic Liberal Party in the presidential election, polled 50.37 percent (5,243,359 votes) of the vote in the runoff presidential election, whereas candidate of the Alliance between the Social Democratic Party and the Conservative Party Mircea Geoana got 49.62 percent (5,165,415 votes), according to the partial results centralized by the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) from 99.13 percent of the polling stations till 11 am on Monday.

According to BEC spokesman Marian Muhulet, they centralized the data from almost all the polling stations. “We are still waiting for the online results from another 188 polling stations, 4 in Arges County [southern Romania], 97 in Constanta County [south-eastern Romania], 26 in Iasi County [eastern Romania], 2 in Maramures County [northern Romania], 49 in Olt County [southern Romania] and 10 in Tulcea County [eastern Romania],” said Marian Muhulet.

The total number of the voters on the copies of the permanent electoral registers is 18,181,959 and 10,546,299, that is 58 percent, went to the polls. The total number of the validly cast votes was 10,408,774, namely 98.69 percent, 137,452 votes were declared null, that is 1.3 percent.
