Mazuru attends first GAC, EAC meetings after Lisbon Treaty enforcement

State Secretary for European Affairs Bogdan Mazuru is attending the meeting of the General Affairs Council (GAC) and the External Affairs Council (EAC) in Brussels on Monday and Tuesday, the foreign ministry announced in a release.

The foreign ministers attending the General Affairs Council will hold talks on laying the groundwork of the European Council due on Dec. 10-11 and they will hold debates on the European Union enlargement and the EU crisis management mechanisms.
The agenda of the External Affairs Council includes such topics as the EU role of a global player, Althea operation, the Middle East peace process, the recent developments in Iran and the Arctic cooperation.

A ministerial meeting of the participating states in the Eastern Partnership as well as the EU¬Morocco Association Council will be held on the sidelines of the GAC and EAC meetings.
Following the enforcement of the Lisbon Treaty on Dec. 1, the General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC) has been divided into two separate bodies: the General Affairs Council and the External Affairs Council respectively. The gatherings on Monday and Tuesday are the first to be conducted in two separate bodies.
