Starting Monday, Copenhagen is hosting the 15th climate change conference (COP 2009), the most important summit on environment issues. For two weeks leaders of 40 countries are to set the long-term strategy on global heating control.

Two officials of the Commission for public administration, territory management and environmental balance, namely president Sulfina Barbu and secretary Attilla Korodi as well as Iosif Blaga, a member of the Romanian Parliament’s Delegation within the Parliament Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) represent Romania in the event, on Dec. 15-16.

According to the Environment Ministry, Romania’s delegation to the negotiations of the Copenhagen Conference will be headed by the Environment Minister and will also include officials of the Public Finance Ministry, the Economy Ministry, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, the Department for European Business, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

In Copenhagen, over Dec. 7-18, 192 countries will try to reach an agreement on the protraction the commitments of the Kyoto Protocol on climate, whose first stage runs out at the end of 2012. The next major meeting on environmental issues, after the Summit in Denmark is due in Mexico in December 2010.
