‘Palata Nas 6 / Ward No. 6′ directed by Karen Sahnazarov, nominated for the US Academy Awards in 2009 in the “Best Foreign Film’ category, is going to be screened in Bucharest in the presence of its director. The film was based on a short story by Cehov and tells the story of a psychiatrist who ends being a patient in his own hospital.
‘The Messenger’, ‘Vanished Empire’, ‘The Rider Named Death’ and ‘City O’ are going to be the other 4 films signed by Sahnazarov to be screened on this occasion in Bucharest. Director, producer and playwright Karen Georgievici Sahnazarov is one of the main representatives of the Russian film school, with his films having been unanimously appreciated by the international film critics.
His prize list included, among others, a nomination for Palme ďOr, at Cannes 1991, for ‘The Assassin of the Tsar’, the special prize of the jury, the FIPRESCI special mention and a nomination for the Crystal Globe award, Karlovy Bvary 1998, for the film ‘The Day of Full Moon’, as well as a nomination at the Crystal Globe, Karlovy Vary 1998, for the ‘Poisons or the World History of Poisoning’.
The Metropolitan Library, the Romanian Peasant’s Museum, the CHARTA Foundation and the Embassy of the Russian Federation to Bucharest organized the ‘Days of the Russian Film’ event in Bucharest.
