“I thank you very much for your visit in December, it is a more or less unexpected visit. I already know part of your conclusions, but I will be glad to find out directly what you think it is necessary for us to do in the coming period. Anyway, I think we are one of the countries that, despite the elections period, succeeded to adopt difficult measures, taking everybody by surprise and it was also my decision not to put Romania’s seriousness in relation with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund under a question mark, to prove we are trustful people”, said the President.
In his turn, Paul Thompson, IMF delegation representative, said that the Fund is very satisfied that, despite the political situation in Romania, the timetable of commitments implementation was kept. “We are glad to return, even in December, and as I told your colleagues, we are glad to assist Romania to cross the period of challenges generated by the global crisis”, he also said.
Traian Basescu pointed out that he backed the Government in the implementation of the assumed commitments towards IMF, adding that Romania has no much time left to achieve the process of state modernization.
