As Octavian Morariu, chairman of the Romanian Sport Olympic Committee, put it, our delegation’s chances of winning Olympic medals are very slim, but there is hope of coming first, second or third in the bob-sleigh and biathlon competitions. “The delegation of our country will not leave all at the same time, as was the case in Beijing, China, for the Summer Olympic Games. Now we have a less numerous delegation. We let the relevant federations have flexible programmes, depending on the date when the competitions begin,” said Morariu.
Morariu also told Radio Romania Actualitati: “We have, I should say, certain priorities for these Winter Olympic Games. We are looking carefully at what will happen in the bob-sleigh and biathlon events where there were encouraging results. We do not have the aim of winning Olympic medals. We know our value very well. One cannot expect good results where one cannot have them.”
Octavian Morariu also said: “We shall carefully watch the winter sports, where we have invested both money and trust. In context we shall organize the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2013 in the Prahova Valley. I want to see if this care for the winter sports will materialize in obvious progress made in Vancouver.”
