6 ianuarie 2010

Information in English

Secretary of State with the Health Ministry Adrian Streinu Cercel (MD PhD) said on Tuesday that a number of 5,870 A/H1N1 (swine) flu cases were registered so far, of which 120 were confirmed in the past 24 hours, and 66 deaths.

Referring to the evolution of the number of flu casualties, Dr. Streinu said that they are expected to peak by mid-January and then follow a downward trend.
The cited official told a press conference that actor Tony Tecuceanu who was performing in entertainment television show “The Fault-finders’ Review” and who died Tuesday morning at age 37 had suffered from flu complications – a heart and lung condition, and that he had been in hospital for a week, during which he had required mechanical ventilation.

Prof. Adrian Streinu Cercel underscored the need to get the vaccine as the only way to prevent falling sick with the flu. He explained that 90 out of 100 persons that fall sick with the flu only suffer a mild form of the disease, eight persons are hit by medium to severe forms of infection and two are severe cases that can result in fatalities. Streinu Cercel mentioned that 166,000 persons got the A/H1N1 vaccine last year, of whom 40,000 in the last week of December.
