Security situation in this country continues to be affected by terrorist activities and there were instances of foreign tourists being kidnapped in the provinces of Ma’rib, Shabwa, Amran and Abyan, MAE also warns. As well, MAE recommends people who embark on ships, set to navigate off the African east coast, to be very cautious because of the risk the ship might be seized by pirates.
“However, Romanian citizens compelled to go to Yemen are seriously advised to get prior information about the security situation in this zone. To this end, it is advisable that they access from time to time the Ministry of Foreign Affairs web page (www.mae.ro)”, the ministry informs. At the same time, MAE warns that there is no diplomatic mission and no consular office of Romania in Yemen.
“As an European Union citizen, when in need, you can contact a diplomatic mission of another EU country, headquartered in Yemen, to issue you a travel document enabling your return to Romania”, MAE also informs. Romanians who must go to Yemen or are already on its territory are advised to get in touch with Romania’s Embassy in the United Arab Emirates to announce their presence in the region and the respective coordinates, in order to be contacted in case of emergency situations.
MAE wishes to draw attention to the Romanian citizens who might ignore these warnings and go to the areas of risk that “they take responsibility for their own moves and will suffer the consequences of such trips, considering the possibilities of intervention of the diplomatic missions in such areas are reduced”.
