“The deadline for lodging amendments is until this evening (Thursday – Ed. note) at 8:00 p.m. We were convened to debates this morning. In an attempt to juggle tasks, we tried to hold debates, although amendment submittals are not yet complete. They keep on coming in. I tried to chair a meeting that was supposed to debate amendments that are not yet centralized, and which keep on coming.
To my surprise, objections were raised by representatives of the ruling line-up who should have encouraged me and back me in this attempt. We cannot hold debates without a clear situation of the amendments on the table. The only solution was to suspend the meeting,” explained Stefan.
“So far we have only 600 amendments. Multiply this figure by 5 or 6 and we get a preview of the centralized report, which I hope will be on my desk tomorrow morning at 10.00. We will work intensely until we get through all amendments, but we cannot eschew debates on each particular amendment and listening to the opinion of each colleague.
We will work the weekend as well and hope we will be able to finalize debates. I admit to being wrong in trying to push the procedure and hold debates with incomplete amendment submittals. I thought we will succeed, but we failed,” said Viorel Stefan.
