The ministry had earlier said that the visas for the Romanians travelling to Turkey had been lifted starting Jan. 7. ‘The measure will take effect after the Turkish border authorities are announced and it applies to the Romanian citizens who own simple passports. The date when the law takes effect will be announced on the Foreign Ministry’s Web site and by a press release’, the ministry explained.
The entry to the Republic of Turkey is being made only on the basis of a passport. The Romanian foreign ministry recommends the Romanians who want to travel to Turkey to have, in addition to their passports, their identity cards as well, where additional identification data are recorded.
There were cases in which Romanian citizens in the territory of Turkey were detained by the local police because their name coincided with the name of people who had committed offences in Turkey. The ministry also insistently recommends the Romanians not to start on a journey outside Romania without having medical, life and travel insurance.
