Information in English

The volume “Eminescu and India” by Indian researcher Amita Bhose on Wednesday will be launched at the National Museum of Romanian Literature, commemorating the 160th anniversary since the birth of the national poet of Romania Mihai Eminescu.

“Eminescu and India” is a survey of Indian influences in the romantic poet’s work and a confirmation of the great contribution brought by the Romanian literature to the universal culture.
Originally a PhD thesis, presented in 1975 under the guideline of Prof. Dr. Doctor Zoe Dumitrescu-Busulenga, the research brought to its author the reputation of one of the most competent researchers into the history of the Indian culture in the European cultural space.

Amita Bhose is the first translator of Eminescu in the Asian space (her translations were made in Bengali), who dedicated her entire existence to the accurate interpretation of all “traces” of Indian influence in the Romanian poet’s work.

The love for Eminescu’s poetry made her eventually settle in Romania, where he taught Bengali, Sanskrit and Indian civilization at the University of Bucharest. She also translated into Bengali Romanian literature, she wrote articles, studies, conferences arguing about Eminescu, about Romanian and Indian Literature.
