‘I believe I made myself clear in the answers to the written questionnaire for the European Parliament too. I believe the current budget will allow the CAP function and I believe we need to maintain a good budget for agriculture. I assure you I will come to the College of Commissioners with arguments to maintain an important budget for the CAP. We can’t build a robust policy in agriculture without a strong budget,’ the designated Commissioner said.
As regards the granting of direct payments, Ciolos said that, while answering to a question addressed to him by MEP Capoulas-Santos (S&D), these payments should be distributed in a more realistic manner. The Socialist MEP wanted more explanations, so that Dacian Ciolos explained to him there is need to a better equity among European farmers benefiting of these payments.
While referring to the European dairy sector, which represents a highly sensitive field for the European farmers, Ciolos said that ‘there is need of regulation inside the branch’. ‘I believe solutions are to be found by the players in this sector. Nevertheless, I could discuss certain derogations with my colleague for competition in some of the cases,’ Dacian Ciolos said.
