Achieving an eastern area of stability and security represents a fundamental strategic interest for both Romania and Lithuania, and for the EU and NATO, Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Baconschi and his Lithuanian counterpart Vygaudas Usackas agreed.

The two officials on Friday met on the sidelines of the “Snow Summit” organised by the Lithuanian diplomacy head in Trakai, informs the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE). Baconschi and Usackas discussed about deepening the dialogue and cooperation between the two states with a view to supporting reforms and Euro-Atlantic bids of the Black Sea riparian states.

Moreover, the two approached such issues of a common interests in bilateral relations, such as Lithuania holding the Presidency of the Community of Democracies, the Treaty of Lisbon, the EU enlargement and the European Neighbourhood Policy, EU energy security and the NATO enlargement.
As regards the hot topics on the regional and international agenda, the two ministers discussed ways in which Romania and Lithuania can give substance to their contributions, while relying on the same views and approaches.
