‘If you look at 1859, we would only find that priorities arising after the unification are quite similar to priorities we have today: to dominate the arbitrary, to place the law above the various groups of interests, to reform the education system and the modern state.
Which can lead us to the conclusion that the modernization of the state, a modern education system, a legislation to stand above the human will is the constant of a state which must be in an almost continuous process of reforming its institutions,’ said the President.
Basescu evoked the memory of the Romanian soldiers who fell in the Western Balkans, in Iraq, Afghanistan, showing that, through their sacrifice, they are the builders of nowadays Romania and the creators of its modern history. In this regard, he reminded that, on Thursday, the CSAT (the Supreme Council for Country Defense) decided to send 600 more Romanian troops to Afghanistan.
‘There are people who go on mission first of all to serve Romania. Today’s major threat, the terrorism and the military action without rules, must be controlled as far away as possible from national territory, as far away as possible from the Black Sea,’ he said.
The head of the Romanian state welcomed the fact that at this time, 151 years since the Union of the Romanian Principalities there were decorated posthumously the soldiers who had fallen in the operation theatres.
