Organized by ToRo Arts Group in cooperation with the Romanian Cultural Institute, the festival unfurls under the title ‘Crisis ’89, then Adaptation’. According to the ToRo Arts Group official website, the event is to include, besides films projections, a round-table meeting facilitated by Calin-Andrei Mihailescu, University of Western Ontario Professor.
The presentation of the documentary ‘New wave of Romanian cinema’ (La Nouvelle Vague du Cinema Roumain) will precede the discussion, which will have as special guests the producer Tudor Giurgiu and the critics Jennie Punter and Adam Nayman.
During the four days of the festival, a series of documentaries will be run, such as ‘Videograms of a Revolution’ by Andrei Ujica and Harun Farocki, ‘Weddings, Music and Video Tapes’ by Tudor Giurgiu or ‘Constantin and Helen’ by Andrei Dascalescu.
The Toronto filmgoers will also have the opportunity to see ‘Apocalypse on wheels’ by Alexandru Solomon, ‘The Paper will be blue’ by Radu Munteanu or ‘Katalin Varga’, a Romanian- British co-production, directed by Peter Strickland.
