Romanian Chief of Staff attends NATO Military Committee Meeting

A delegation headed by the Romanian Chief of Staff (SMG), Admiral Gheorghe Marin, is attending, January 26-27, a meeting of the NATO Military Committee at the level of chiefs of staff of the member states, hosted by Brussels.

SMG officials say the meeting will address the latest developments in and the prospects for the drawing up of NATO’s New Strategy Concept; the operations led by the Alliance; partnership development, and attaching priority to the NATO’s military requirements, as well as providing resources for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

The attendees will also discuss the latest developments in and the prospects for army transformations, as well as the opportunities for and the development directions for military cooperation. The NATO Military Committee convenes at the level of chiefs of staff three times a year, and weekly at the level of standing military representatives.
Chairman of the NATO Military Committee is selected from among the chiefs of staff of the Allied armies for a three-year tenure. Current Chairman of the NATO Military Committee is Italian Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola, who was elected to the office in 2008.
