The ‘Renasterea Mobile Diagnosis Unit’ programme won one of the 12 awards that reward exceptional efforts of individuals/NGOs in the area of cancer prevention in their countries. ‘This prize is an honour that acknowledges the efforts of the team of the Renasterea Foundation and the usefulness of its ‘ Mobile Unit for Diagnosis of Cervical and Breast Cancers.’ We have won praise for circulating the unit in the countryside and small towns, where women have a hard access to such medical tests.
This seminar has talked a lot about the population screening efforts and statistics were presented that indicate cervical cancer occurrence is reduced by 80 percent when cancer screening is conducted nationwide,’ Renasterea Foundation Chair Mihaela Geoana told. The award jury consists of officials of the European Cervical Cancer Association (ECCA) and Politicians for Cervical Cancer Prevention (PCCP).
The programme is in line with the European directives concerning medical services quality, as it is equipped with state-of-the-art devices. Similar projects have been implemented in other European Union countries as well and they have proved highly efficient in early detection of illnesses and in increasing the survival rate of patients.
Representing the Romanian Chamber of Deputies in the 4th European Cervical Cancer Summit, organised by the European Politicians for Cervical Cancer prevention is MEP Sulfina Barbu of the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L), chair of the Chamber’s Committee on Public Administration, Physical Planning and Ecological Equilibrium.
