“We cannot start the small border traffic with a sole consulate on the Republic of Moldova’s territory, that means people would be forced to travel dozens, hundreds of kilometers till a consulate. So that we discussed today (Wednesday – editor’s note) with the Premier and with the President, if the Republic of Moldova wishes to accept more consulates, meant to ease the contact with the Romanian consulates and in such a case we are ready to open another two-three consulates in a very short time.
We discussed about one in Ungheni, which should be opened very quickly and we will do that”, said the President. He added that the new accord on the small border traffic will produce effects for some 1.2 million citizens living in the Republic of Moldova. The head of state said it will be operational, starting on March 31, after the opening of the two consulates in Cahul and Balti.
As well, he gave assurances that the measures to be adopted by the Government in Bucharest on Friday, aimed at the creation of an agency for citizenship granting, will further speed up the process of granting the Romanian citizenship to those who were deprived of it in an abusive manner.
