According to a press release, at the Conference, the Romanian chief of diplomacy presented Romania’s contribution to the international community efforts to ensure security, stabilization and development in Afghanistan, while specifying Romanian troops will station in this country, with the approval of authorities in Kabul, as long as necessary, until their mission is eventually complete.
Baconschi also referred to the decision taken on January 21 by the Supreme Council for Country Defense’s to supplement Romanian troops in the operation theatre in Afghanistan. The Conference highlighted the comprehensive approach, of which Romanian was a supporter too, among others, of the Afghanistan security needing to be backed by good governance, economic and social development.
The Romanian Foreign Minister emphasized the Afghan government needs to assume an essential role too, besides the international community assisting it, in reforming and rebuilding the country as a modern state. ‘Maintaining the dialogue with the Afghan authorities, at all levels, is essential for the success of this process’, Baconschi said.
According to the aforementioned source, the Conference marks a crucial moment, following to mobilize the resources and the international community to support the programme for the future Afghanistan, Afghan President Hamid Karzai recently presented in his inaugural speech after winning new tenure.
