Among the award winning wines were Grasa de Cotnari, Feteasca Alba, Blanc and Chateau of the 2008 and 2009 production. The jury of the contest organized in the capital of the Republic of Moldova was made up of 28 wine experts from 15 countries and some of the traditional wine-producing countries such as France and Portugal vied for medals. In 2009, Cotnari wines earned 39 medals.
The international tasting competition “Chisinau Wines & Spirits Contest 2010” (CWSC) launched in 1992 unfurled with the support of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV). Cotnari, one of Romania’s most important wine producers and distributors, registers an annual turnover in excess of 30 million euros. From its 1,500 hectares of vineyards, Cotnari obtains an annual production of eight million liters of wine, controlling 19 percent of the market and ranking second at national level after Murfatlar (28 percent), and Jidvei with 14 percent.
