Senate Chairman Geoana: The idea of an alternative Gov’t is mandatory

The idea of an alternative Government to the incumbent Democratic-Liberal Party (PD-L) Cabinet is mandatory in the frame of mind of an opposition party that wants to come back to rule, Senate Chairman Mircea Geoana of the opposition Social-Democratic Party (PSD) said on Monday.
‘I have suggested that our party come back to or enter the frame mind of an opposition party that wants to return to rule.
That is why the idea of an alternative Government to the incumbent PD-L Cabinet is mandatory as far as I am concerned and the PSD chief – whom I am ready to support and share all my expertise with, including in drawing up government programmes or providing electioneering support – has an important part to play in being a spearhead in the 2012 election campaign that is drawing in,’ Geoana told journalists before entering the Senate hall for a plenary session.

He also said that PSD must have an alternative government programme ready because ‘spectacular upsets may ensue in 2010.’ ‘Some say there will be an early election in 2010, others that spectacular upsets will occur in the political equation of Romania in 2010. That is why our party should have an alternative government, which I am sure will be unveiled as soon as possible,’ said Geoana.
