“He is still under medical investigation. Pending the laboratory results, the patient is undergoing an injection treatment prescribed by the Iasi Cardiology Centre, where he was hospitalised for investigations and treatment,” said Jicmon.
Sechelariu’s lawyer Nicuta Catu said that her client’s life was “endangered through a hasty and little justified action,” adding “His right to healthcare must be observed.”
Monday evening, Dumitru Sechelariu was halted in traffic by Bacau Police and accompanied to the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) office.
When he was notified about the fact that he is to be taken in custody for 24 hours due to investigation in a corruption file, he started complaining about strong chest pain, being transported under guard to the Bacau County Hospital.
At the end of last week, the Bacau Court of Appeal resumed hearings into a court trial involving the Bacau public transport company, owned by the former mayor’s family, and the Bacau City Hall.
The municipality challenged in court a document under which the Bacau Local Council became a shareholder in Dumitru Sechelariu’s company by contributing a plot of land worth 7 million euros, without the consent of the City Hall or of the mayor. The land in question is the place where the local public transport company has its transport base.
This case caused fierce discussions between the Local Council and the County Council, as well as an investigation of the DNA prosecutors. Last week, they arrested Iuliean Sutu for 29 days, the manager of the company owned by the Sechelariu family, who was accused of wanting to buy the judges’ good will in order to positively settle the trials that have as subject the land where the former mayor wanted to build a hypermarket.
