Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Romania, Liu Zengwen, on Wednesday was on a trip to Galati (eastern Romania), where he met with local authorities and business people, at the invitation of the local branch of the Romania-China Friendship Association.

At the beginning of the visit, the Chinese Ambassador met with Galati County prefect Ionut Cosmin Paun. On this occasion, the diplomat evoked the traditional ties of the two countries, that have been strengthened especially in the last 60 years, after the proclamation of the People’s Republic of China, with Galati being the first of 24 Romanian regions to establish twinning relationships with Chinese provinces.

“I think there is potential for the further development of economic and commercial relations. We too were faced with the economic crisis, but I am optimistic and believe that we can join our efforts to overcome difficulties,” said Liu Zengwen. The second stop during the visit was at the Galati County Council, where the Chinese Ambassador met with the institution’s chairman, Eugen Chebac.

Talks for strengthening cultural, economic and social relations continued during the meeting with the local business and culture people at the Visual Arts Museum.
Liu Zengwen expressed his view that, despite the global crisis, economic relations between Romania and China are very good.
“Despite the global crisis that challenged both countries, their economic and commercial relations are very good.

Last year they reached a total of 2.8 billion dollars, and Romania’s exports to China increased by 20 percent. This is a positive thing,” said the Ambassador. The Chinese Ambassador also attended the inauguration of a photo exhibition dedicated to Beijing Culture and the development of the Hong Kong province. Galati County and the Hubei region are twinned, as are the city of Galati and the Chinese town Wu Han, under an agreement signed in 1987.
