Although faced with major difficulties and challenges, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) carried out in 2009 activities which contributed to the attainment of the defence policy goals, to the consolidation of NATO and European Union member state profile and at the same time as participating state in the management of some crisis situations in the international security environment, stated on Friday Minister Gabriel Oprea on the occasion of the presentation of the 2009 survey of the ministry’s activity.

He added that available resources imposed a lot of creativity, responsibility and efficiency in their management. “Starting from the need of conjugated and concentrated efforts for the attainment of the objectives with major impact on the unfolding transformation process, we have set up for the immediately following period, at the ministry’s leadership level, a priority agenda and a timetable for them to be attained, in line with the funds we can secure for 2010.

In 2010 we will pay an outstanding attention to medium and long-term projects and to their coherence. We will pursue quantifiable results in an optimum rapport with the used resources and we will promote collaboration with all involved factors for the identification, promotion and adoption of the best solutions”, said Oprea referring to the ministry objectives in 2010.

He underlined that the effort has to be sustained through corresponding political decisions, set to strike an optimum balance between the complexity of tasks and the Romanian Army missions, as well as the needed resources to accomplish them.

“The difficult period Romania is facing equally affects the Romanian Army. I consider that, nowadays, solidarity must govern all the state’s initiatives. Equally, I consider that the Romanian state must prove solidarity with the military deployed in operations theaters, genuine Romania’s ambassadors worldwide”, added the Minister of Defence.

As well, he stressed that the current economic crisis should not be transformed into a pretext for “unending” investment delays, so much needed by the Romanian military. “This is a duty of honor towards those who assume devotedly and courageously their mission to represent Romania in the most dangerous zones of the world. I am convinced that the Romanian Army will remain the same respected and appreciated institution both in the country and abroad”, underscored Oprea.
