The Prime Minister invited the trade unions’ representatives to discussions on Friday at 12:30 pm, after the protesters of the Cartel Alfa Confederation asked the Premier to resign, accusing the Government of having reduced their incomes.
Boc walked among the trade unionists that protested outside the Government building and warned that, in case the reforms were be applied to the salary and pension systems, Romania would be in Greece’s situation.
„We agreed to see a delegation of the trade unionists in order to discuss all the issues. We must have a reform of the pensions and salaries, if we want to be able to pay salaries and pensions. If we do not do it, we will be in Greece’s situation. That is why I am wiling to discuss as long as it takes, inside, outside, in the rain, but the reforms must go on.
I myself will discuss with all trade unions, I myself will get involved at any level, showing the people the amount of money available to us, because we have no hidden pocket somewhere, and we must distribute the money we have in equal parts. Similarly, we must have pensions based on contributions, not on privileges,” said Boc.
In context he asked all the trade unionists to support the pension draft law in order to make Parliament adopt it. „If you do not help us cut luxury pensions, Parliament will not help us either. The signal that you give, ie that you do not agree to the pension law, is what Parliament expects, to keep the luxury pensions, both for parliamentarians as well as for the other categories,” the Premier told the trade unionists.
He explained that, following the enforcement of the future pension law, initiated by the Government, low pensions would grow.
„The growth is considered through a mixture between 100 percent of the inflation rate and 50 percent of the gross average salary nationwide. So, the pensions will grow,” explained Emil Boc.
The protesters blamed the Government for the fact that, through the reforms it enforces, it intended to increase the retirement age for both men and women at 65, and insistently asked for the Premier’s resignation.
Nevertheless, the Head of Government explained that the retirement age would increase to 65 for both men and women over a time span that reaches the year 2030. Likewise, he ensured the protesters that the main priority of the Government was to create and maintain jobs.
The trade unions in Bucharest and Ilfov County (southern Romania), members of CNS Cartel Alfa, are picketing the Government headquarters on Friday, as part of a protest action initiated by the Confederation, over 10:30 am-12:00 pm.
The claims that caused the protest action are the incoherence of Law No 330/2009 on the unitary salary within the public system, the improvement of the pension draft law (trade unionists are protesting against the Government’s decision to increase the retirement age), the increase in the pension point value and the change of the pension adjustment method and the increase of the guaranteed minimum salary nationwide to at least 705 lei.
According to trade unionists, about 200 members participate in the protest, both from the public sector, as well as from the economic sector.
