According to data released on Friday by the Eurostat official statistics bureau of the European Union, in January 2010 compared with January 2009, industrial production rose in twelve and fell in seven. The highest increases were registered in Malta (±14.3 percent), Poland (±11.0 percent), the Czech Republic (±8.0 percent) and Romania (±6.8 percent).
The largest decreases were registered in Denmark (-9.8 percent), Lithuania (-5.5 percent), Greece (-4.4 percent) and Spain (-2.5 percent).
In January 2010 compared with January 2009, industrial production increased by 1.4 percent in the euro area – Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland and by 1.5 percent in the EU27. It is for the first time since April 2008 that industrial production moved back to positive territory in the euro area and EU27.
