At the same time, UVR rejects the idea of the autonomy of the geographical area called Tinutul Secuiesc (Szekler County) situated in central Romania, and the introduction of the Hungarian language as the second official language there, asking the state authorities in charge, namely the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism and the General Prosecutor’s Office, to take steps against the actions staged in Sf. Gheorghe (central Romania), on Friday March 12.
The reaction came only one day after, about 250 mayors, local advisors of the counties of Covasna, Harghita and Mures (central Romania) attending the second general meeting of the local officials of the so-called Szekler County, in Sf. Gheorghe (central Romania), on Friday March 12, adopted a decision reading that they commit themselves to ensure the Hungarian language a statue equal to the Romanian language, in all the three above said counties.
The general meeting of the local officials, which is planed to become the Szekler Parliament, also passed a decision saying that March 15 (Hungary’s National Day, marking the Revolution 1848- 49 in Hungary), to become a holiday of local interest and to be a day off for the ethnic Hungarians living in Romania.
The leaders of the Szekler National Council announced, from their position as the organizer of the general meeting that the decisions are legitimate because they were adopted and would be enforced by the local officials having attended the event.
