‘I am glad that for the first time the Opposition has put up a common opinion and I believe this unpleasant situation from the start of the talks makes that all the conditions be in place for the Opposition to finally start working and opposing what is currently happening in relation to the governing coalition,’ said Constantin.
Constantin also said that before pulling out of the talks he had sent a letter to President Basescu introducing the official opinion of the PC, as approved by the party’s Political Bureau. ‘We want a revision process o be conducted as soon as possible because we want a rapid modernisation of the State. Moreover, PC has suggested a schedule for approving the revision of the Constitution that will make it possible for us to talk about a different Constitution in one year’s time,’ he added.
The PC favours a single-chamber Parliament, in keeping with the people’s wish, but say they are also open to a two-chamber Parliament. ‘If the single-chamber Parliament version passes, we will have to adopt a parliamentary regime. When we look at the report of the presidential board on the political regime of Romania, we see that the presidential regime is eliminated straightaway,’ said Constantin.
