Thus, in the first month of 2010, the Romanian manufacturer posted the highest production and export volume in the last five years, but also the lowest sales level on the internal market.
The value of Dacia exports in January was around 200 million euros, according to the estimations made by the daily Ziarul Financiar, a figure accounting for almost 9 percent of Romania’s total exports in the first month of the year (2.3 billion euros), according to the National Institute of Statistics.
By comparison, Dacia cars exports in January 2010 represented little over 3 percent of Romania’s total exports.
Although Dacia feared the end of the old car scrappage schemes in Europe, which pushed the Romanian manufacturer’s production up to 300,000 cars last year, the January results indicate that the Romanian brand continues to record increasing sales, the daily informs.
In Western Europe a number of 15,800 Dacia models were registered in January, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association data, which is double from January 2009, while in the Eastern Europe, in countries such as Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania there were around 1,500.
‘In 2010 the exports will hold steady at about 85 percent. We will still have weight on the local market, especially in the context of our new car park renewal programme this year,’ said Automobile Dacia vice chairman Constantin Stroe, quoted by Ziarul Financiar.
According to the data provided by the car manufacturer, Dacia sales might reach almost 500,000 units per year in the following 2-3 years, while in 2009 they exceeded 310,000 units.
