„We have to admit that we are still in a difficult situation. The government must take care of the most vulnerable categories of the Romanian society at this moment. On the other hand, we must take measures aimed at the country’s modernization and at exiting economic recession. These might seem opposing priorities – social protection and modernization.
In fact, they are not in contradiction with one another, with one major condition – that we all stay moderate, that we do not ask more than can be offered and that we do not ask for more than the economy can give at this time,” said Premier Boc during the debate „The need of creating new jobs and improve the Romanian business environment,” initiated by the parliamentary group of the Liberal Democratic Party (PD-L, at the rule).
The Prime Minister said that those who better kept in check before the crisis „overcame it” more easily. „Unfortunately, we were not temperate in the years of economic growth but quite the opposite, we spent the available public resources not on infrastructure, not on creating jobs, but for supporting a false consumption. And we also have to learn from this lesson of the past,” said the head of the government.
He added that „immediate interests cannot be placed above the country’s economic interests.’ In this context, the Prime Minister urged the MPs attending the debate to help strengthen „what has been started” and leave aside „demagogy and pork-barreling.’
„The government will continue to expand measures to support job generation and the business environment,’ Boc also noted.
He emphasized that rating agencies have positively changed their estimations for Romania and that the volume of exports and industrial production have started to rise. „We also have an average unemployment rate by almost two percent smaller,” said Boc, who also listed last week’s eurobond issue on European markets among the accomplishments.
„We are headed in the right direction, even if the impact on the Romanians’ everyday life will show later,” concluded the Prime Minister.
