The opposition Social Democratic Party (PSD) believes that the main priority in the talks between the political decision makers should be attached to economic and social measures, reasserting that the PSD disagrees with the current version of the public pension law.

‘We thought that economic and social measures should be the main priority, and that is what we told President Traian Basescu,’ PSD chief Victor Ponta said on Tuesday at the end of consultations with President Basescu over Constitution revision.

‘If, as the Boc Government increases unemployment, freezes wages and pensions and destroys Romania economically and socially, we discuss modifying the Constitution, Romanians might believe that we live in a different country and that, instead of taking care of their problems we are taking care of ours – how to organise the Government and Parliament,’ Ponta said in relation to the timeliness of the revision talks.
