In January 2010, compared with December, the volume of construction works increased in no more than three of the member states and fell in eight. Growths were recorded in Slovenia (7.1 percent), Sweden (2.7 percent) and in UK (0.9 percent), while the largest decreases were reported in the Czech Republic (minus 22 per cent), Germany (minus 14.3 percent), Spain and Bulgaria (both with minus 6.1 percent) and Romania (minus 5.9 percent).
In terms of the annual rate, construction works declined 8.4 percent in the European Union and 12.5 percent in the euro area. In this case, the strongest declines were recorded in Bulgaria (minus 30 percent), the Czech Republic (minus 24.6 percent), Germany (minus 16.5 percent), Spain (minus 14.6 percent) and Romania (minus 12.4 percent).
