Information in English

An economic growth between 1 percent and 1.3 percent and an unemployment rate of roughly 7.5 percent are forecasted for the end of 2010, Minister of Labour, Family and Social Protection Mihai Seitan said on Thursday, in Vaslui (eastern Romania).

He warned that this slight increase would not be immediately felt by citizens. Regarding unemployment, the Minister said that, over the following two months, the number of unemployed persons would increase and over the summer it would drop, so that at the end of the year the unemployment rate should come near to the one registered at the end of last year.

„Compared to other European countries, where the unemployment rate reached over 10 percent, our position is quite good. It is important to intensify the unemployment reduction measures and to create new jobs. We are talking about supporting short-term work schemes and the companies offering jobs to unemployed persons. Likewise, some measures will be taken so as to draw in foreign investments and to improve the legislation regarding the public-private partnership, measures through which the number of employees will grow,” said Mihai Seitan.
