The two heads of government who attended the inauguration of the Turnu Magurele (southern Romania) – Nikopol (Bulgaria) ferry service across the Danube also discussed the possibility of joining forces to build two hydropower plants on the Danube. In relation to the Calafat-Vidin bridge, the Romanian Prime Minister expressed hopes that the investment can be accomplished after the extension of the completion deadline, with the European Commission’s agreement, as the project is largely based on European funding.
„We discussed aspects related to our future collaboration and the continuation of works on the Calafat-Vidin bridge in the first place, and we hope that we will receive a favorable response from the European Commission for the extension of the ISPA program,” said Premier Emil Boc. Referring to the toll charged on the Giurgiu-Ruse bridge, Premier Boc said he is optimistic that a solution will be found for passenger cars before the onset of high season.
