‘Traian Basescu appreciated Chile’s constant interest in developing both political and economic ties with Romania. He underscored the fact that Romania wants to provide new prospects in its traditional relations with Latin American countries,’ reads a press release issued by the President’s Press Office.
The President is also quoted as having reiterated Romania’s wish to capitalise on the existing cooperation opportunities, particularly in the economic area, and as appreciating the mutual support granted by the two countries to each other within international organisations.
At a meeting on January 20, 2010, with the heads of the diplomatic corps accredited in Bucharest, Presidnet Basescu said that Romania wants to tighten cooperation with Latin American countries, including Chile, Brazil and Mexico, counting on cultural affinities.
When he was appointed ambassador to Romania in 2006, Carlos Parker Almonacid was a regional coordination director with the Chilean Foreign Ministry.
On March 3, 2010, Almonacid launched his bilingual Romanian-Spanish book called ‘ Scrisori de acreditare/Cartas Credenciales’ (Credential Letters), at the Vasile Goldis West University of Arad.
