‘It is a very important event. The two ministries signed no protocols, over the past six years. In principle it was agreed on the increase in the number of scholarships for the pupils and the students from the Republic of Moldova,’ Moldovan Education Minister Leonid Bujor said in the end of his meeting with Romania’s Education Minister, in Bucharest, on Friday.
According to the Moldovan official, the relations between the two countries are a priority and Romania is the ‘ambassador of the Republic of Moldova’s EU accession.’ ‘Education is a priority and we want to deepen our (bilateral – editor’s note) relations. We launched the invitation for a fresh meeting in Chisinau. Today, we’ve left behind the most shameful page in the history of the relations between our ministries.
We are interested in profound relations with Romania. I hope the number of the students from the Republic if Moldova to learn in Romania, will increase,’ Minister Bujor said. Minister Funeriu, in his turn, said, he is honored by the visit paid by his Moldovan counterpart, and expressed hope that it would be the beginning of a good friendship, both personally and between the two ministries.
‘The Republic of Moldova’s road toward Europe goes through the education. Education is the first and main vector where we can cooperate in,’ Minister Funeriu stressed. He also explained that the meeting on Friday, also approached topics such as the scholarships for the pupils and the students from the Republic of Moldova, the possibility to allocate the Moldovan students 2,000 seats in the Romanian holiday camps, and the cooperation in the university education and the reciprocal acknowledgement of the diplomas. About 14,000 students from the Republic of Moldova are currently studying in Romania, the Moldovan Education Minister said.
