According to the Ministry of Culture and National Patrimony (MCPN), an important item on the EU Council’s agenda was the debate on the contribution in the field of culture and creativity to the attainment of the EU 2020 Strategy goals, as well as the means through which the structural funds could be better valued for an optimal funding of the culturr sector.
In his address, the Romanian Culture Minister pinpointed the need to complete the 2020 Strategy initiatives with references to culture and creativity. „We are aware of the fact that a Union of innovation cannot exist, if it is not backed and completed by a Union of creativity”, said Kelemen.
The Minister of Culture also noted that another significant initiative within which culture and creativity can play a fundamental role is the Digital agenda for Europe.
As regards the valuing of structural instruments, Kelemen underlined the need of their better dissemination and promotion through joint efforts by the Commission and by the member states.
In the context, Romania’s Culture Minister referred not only to the financing opportunities in the cultural field, but also in other fields. Kelemen underscored that MCPN planned to get ready an Operational Programme destined to the cultural sector in the upcoming period of structural funds programming, a priority otherwise included into the current governance programme.
„We are aware of the fact that the operational programmes exclusively destined to the cultural sector generated both praises and criticism, but we consider that this option better corresponds to the needs expressed by the operators in our country”, the Culture Minister also said when concluding his address.
