Environ, Let’s Do It Romania enter partnership to green up natural habitats

Environ and Let’s Do It Romania association will be starting what they say is the most important greening-up action of Romania’s natural habitats under which tonnes of waste gathered in four Romanian counties will be collected in one day.

Under the partnership of the two associations, Environ is to provide logistics support to Let’s Do It for the collection and transport of waste in the counties of Ilfov, Mures, Harghita and Covasna on September 25, the National Clean-Up Day. Environ will also provide the entire infrastructure for the collection of used batteries, electronic waste, packaging and other recycling waste as well as for the waste transport and the recipients for selective collection.

Environ is a non-governmental organisation of importers, manufacturers, retailers and recyclers. The main aim of its business it to raise public awareness over the importance of electronic waste selective collection and recycling as well as electronic waste management.
This September, Romania will measure the waste in its natural environment with the start of this one-day campaign called ‘Let’s Do It, Romania!’ to be conducted nationwide on September 25.

For the promotion and conduct of the project local authorities including the Ministry of the Environment and Forestry (MMP), the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports (MECTS), the Romanian Waters National Agency (ANAR), the Romanian Gendarmerie, the ROMSILVA National Forestry Administration, the Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs (MCC), the Bucegi National Park Administration and the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MDRT) have joined it as partners.

The ‘Let’s Do It, Romania!’ campaign is inspired from Estonia’s similar initiative that saw 50,000 volunteers joining forces for a May 3, 2008 clean-up day. Latvia, Lithuania and Portugal followed suit. Slovenia and India, besides Romania, will be next. Romania is the largest European country where the project will be conducted. So far, 20,000 individual supporters have joined the initiative through social networks.
