Eight counties, Braila (eastern Romania), Calarasi, Dolj (both in southern Romania), Galati (eastern Romania), Giurgiu, Ialomita, Teleorman (all three of them in southern Romania) and Tulcea (eastern Romania), over 3,100 hectares of arable land and 24 homesteads, outhouses and courtyards as well as an economic unit have been affected by floods in the past 24 hours, informs the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU).
According to IGSU, 1,741 employees working with IGSU, 465 working with the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Gendarmerie, 74 working with the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police, 22 working with the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, together with over 1,500 employees working with the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) and other structures took action in order to remove and diminish the effects of the hydrological and meteorological phenomena.
In all there were 563 machines working for this purpose, 288 of which belonging to the county inspectorates for emergency situations. 649 employees working with IGSU, together with another 252 employees working with the Ministry of Administration and the Interior as well as 142 employees working with MApN and other structures took action in Galati County alone.
In the city of Galati they work to make higher and consolidate the dam in the Moruzzi, Gara and Portului streets with sacks of sand and foil, to build the dam on the three steps of the lower promenade and to evacuate the water getting into the gardens in the Barbosi district.
